Yamaha Motorcycle Stolen and Recover in Lowell, MA by Police Using LoJack

On May 16, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Yamaha YZFR1 motorcycle contacted the Lowell Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from outside their residence in Lowell sometime during the previous evening. Lowell officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Yamaha motorcycle.

A short while later, Lowell Police officers picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Yamaha on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to the area of Bridge Street. There, they located the abandoned motorcycle, parked on Mt. Grove Street. The officers recovered the undamaged bike and contacted the owner, who responded to the scene to take possession of the motorcycle.
