On May 25, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Toyota Yaris contacted the Lowell Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from outside a business in the downtown area where it had been parked a short time ago. The Lowell  Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota Yaris.

A short while later, Lowell officers picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack Computers, Officers tracked the stolen Toyota to a shopping mall on Bridge Street. There, the officers located the undamaged and unoccupied vehicle.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Yaris in October of 2007.
