Seattle Home Burglarized, Cavalier Stolen, While Owner Slept — Car Recovered 8 Minutes Later

During the night of May 5-6, 2012, an individual was asleep in her home in Seattle when her home was burglarized and her 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier stolen along with several items of personal property. When the victim awoke at 3:00AM, she immediately reported the theft to the Seattle Police Department.
Seattle Police prepared a theft report and had the stolen Cavalier’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle, prompting it to begin emitting a silent homing signal. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Just eight minutes later, a K9 officer with the Federal Way Police Department began to pick up the Cavalier’s homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the audio and visual cues on the PTC display, the officer quickly located the abandoned Cavalier in the 1800 block of SW 318th Place in Federal Way.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in December of 2010 when it was purchased as a used vehicle.
