Rented Nissan Maxima Stolen in Lawrence, MA, Recovered Undamaged in Revere, MA

On the morning of March 28, 2012, a resident of Lawrence, MA parked her Thrifty Rental car (a 2001 Nissan Maxima) in the parking lot of her apartment complex on Inman Street. When she returned for the vehicle later, she discovered it missing and immediately reported the theft to the Lawrence Police Department.
The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the Nissan’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed inside the stolen Nissan, prompting it to emit a silent homing signal.
Within a few hours, officers from the Massachusetts State Police Revere Barracks and the Revere Police Department began to pick up the homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. One trooper tracked the signal to the area of the Revere Beach Parkway, and was able to quickly locate the unoccupied and undamaged Nissan, parked on the Lee Burbank Highway in Revere. The trooper had the vehicle towed from the scene for safekeeping until the Lawrence Police Department could notify the owner – Thrifty Rental Car – of the recovery.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Nissan at the owner’s request on October 20, 2000.
