The owner of a 1998 Mercedes SLK 230 reported his car stolen to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office on April 22, 2012. The responding officer completed a stolen vehicle report and had this information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed inside the stolen Mercedes. Neither the owner nor police had to take any further action to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.

Minutes later, an officer with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office began to pick up the Mercedes’ silent LoJack signal on his LoJack Police Tracking Computer. Following the directional cues on the Tracking Computer, the officer quickly located the Mercedes in a parking lot behind a strip mall. The officer recovered the intact, undamaged vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
