Jaguar XK8 Stolen from Motel Parking Lot with Engine Running — Recovered Undamaged and Abandoned

While checking into a motel in DeSoto, Texas, the owner of a 2007 Jaguar XK8 left his vehicle’s engine running in the motel parking lot. When he returned to the vehicle, he found it missing, and immediately reported it stolen to the DeSoto Police Department.
DeSoto Police completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Jaguar’s information entered into the Texas state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
A short time later, officers with the Dallas Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the computer, the officers tracked the stolen Jaguar to a parking garage. There, they located the vehicle, parked and abandoned on the second floor. The officers recovered the undamaged Jaguar and returned it to the grateful owner. This remains an ongoing investigation.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed at the previous owner’s request on August 7, 2001.
