Son of Owner Stole Ford Focus After Altercation — Police Quickly Stop Police, Arrest Suspect

On Tuesday afternoon, February 14, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Ford Focus 4-door sedan contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.
Upon arrival at the scene, the responding officer met with the owner of the Focus, who stated she and her son had an altercation. The owner broke free from the son’s grasp and fled the house. Upon returning to the house, the owner discovered that her car keys, car and son were missing. The officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the vehicle’s information entered into the federal and state crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Ford Focus.
Minutes later, an officer with the Miami-Dade Police Department received the silent LoJack radio signal from the stolen Ford’s LoJack unit. Following the directional and signal strength cues on their patrol car’s LoJack Police Tracking Computer, the officer, along with backup, observed Ford in the 3600 block of West Flagler Street. The officer performed a felony vehicle stop and apprehended the driver. The suspect was arrested for Grand Theft Auto. The vehicle was recovered, released to the owner at the scene, and removed from police crime computer systems.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Ford Focus on July 1, 2010, and has been protecting it ever since.
