Hartford Police Quickly Track and Recover Stolen Honda Accord Minutes After Theft is Reported

The owner of a 2004 Honda Accord awoke during of the night on January 4, 2012, to discover that the vehicle had been stolen and immediately reported the theft to the Hartford Police Department.  It was the police’s subsequent completion of the vehicle theft report and routine entry of the Honda’s information into the state and federal crime databases that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed inside the Honda Accord.

Just four minutes later, patrol units with the Hartford Police Department and the Connecticut State Police began to pick up the silent homing signals from the stolen Honda on their patrol vehicles’ Police Tracking Computers. Following the computer’s directional and signal strength cues, the Hartford Police were the first to locate the vehicle, parked and unoccupied, within the city’s limits. The police recovered the Honda, only 49 minutes after the theft was reported, and quickly returned the vehicle to its owner.
