Stolen Honda CBR1000 and Trailer Recovered by Multiple Police Units in Florida

In the early morning of January 21, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle discovered the bike missing from the parking lot of his apartment complex in Melbourne, where he had parked it the previous night. He immediately contacted the Melbourne Police Department to report the theft.
After completing a stolen vehicle report, Melbourne Police had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network because LoJacks’ interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Approximately four hours later, a pilot with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their helicopter. Using the directional and signal strength indicators on their tracking unit, flight officers determined that the signal was emanating from an apartment complex in West Melbourne, FL. They then directed ground units from the Brevard Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol to the area. The ground units determined that the motorcycle was inside a stolen enclosed trailer parked at the rear of the complex. The Honda and the trailer were both recovered.
The Honda CBR1000 was recovered with minimal damage and returned to the very happy owner. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this vehicle at the owner’s request in November 2007.
