Tracking of Stolen Suzuki Motorcycle Leads to Discovery of Chop Shop Across from Town Hall

On the night of February 10, 2007, the owner of a 2008 Suzuki GSZR 600 reported his motorcycle stolen to the Rock Hill Police Department. After confirming the theft and completing a stolen vehicle report, the Rock Hill Police had the stolen motorcycle’s VIN entered into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack unit hidden deep inside the motorcycle, and prompted the unit to begin emitting a silent radio signal to law enforcement agents.
A short while later, a Richland County Sheriff’s Officer detected the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Suzuki on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the computer’s cues, the officer tracked the signal to the town of Elgin and pinpointed its location in a garage across from Town Hall. Elgin Police Department officers, along with Richland County officers, entered the garage and found two suspects dismantling the stolen motorcycle. Officers arrested the suspects and confirmed the presence of another stolen motorcycle inside. Upon further investigation, they discovered two additional motorcycles, both with ignitions removed; these vehicles were impounded which they impounded for additional investigation.
