On the afternoon of January 2, 2012, the owner of a 2009 Toyota Corolla contacted the Austin Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.

The reporting officer responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.

A short while later, Austin Police Officers picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Toyota on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their vehicle. Following the computer cues, they tracked the Toyota to a residential neighborhood, where they found it parked on the street. Because of the quick recovery time, the Toyota was returned to the owner without any damage.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Corolla at the owner’s request on July 14, 2008.
