On the evening of January 8, 2012, the owners of a 1997 Honda Civic contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s (LASD) West Hollywood Station to report the vehicle stolen.

LASD officers responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.

Twelve minutes later, LASD West Hollywood deputies picked up the LoJack signal from the stolen Honda Civic on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the computer’s cues, the deputies tracked and located the Honda, parked on the street, unoccupied. Due to the timely report and quick recovery, the vehicle was not damaged or stripped. The deputies recovered the vehicle and notified the owner.
