Dallas Police Recover Dodge Pickup Stolen at Gunpoint During Christmas Party

On Christmas Day 2011, the owner of a 2000 Dodge pickup was having a Christmas party in his backyard when he and his guests were robbed at gunpoint of all of the money in their pockets. The thief also stole the owner’s pickup and fled the location. The owner immediately contacted the Dallas Police Department to report the crime.
Dallas Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Dodge’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Dodge and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
A short time later, Dallas Police Officers picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Dodge on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their vehicle. This allowed the officers to track the stolen pickup to the 2400 block of Merlin, where they located the vehicle parked in front of a house. While officers were in the process of recovering the vehicle, two witnesses approached them and gave them the name of the suspect who was driving this stolen pickup. This remains an ongoing investigation, with an arrest warrant pending.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Dodge pickup at the previous owner’s request on April 28, 2000.
