On the evening of November 8, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle received an Early Warning Alert from LoJack advising the bike was moving. Early Warning is a LoJack feature that calls the owner of the bike when it moves without the presence of a LoJack Key Pass. According to the owner, the bike was parked in a secured parking garage of an apartment complex on South Pine Street. When the owner confirmed that the bike was, in fact, missing, he immediately contacted the Tacoma Police Department to report it stolen.

Tacoma Police verified the theft and had the Yamaha’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle.

Minutes later, multiple Tacoma Police officers received the silent LoJack homing signal transmitting from the stolen motorcycle on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol cars.  Following the directional and audible cues from their LoJack computers, the officers quickly tracked the motorcycle’s signal to the 800 block of East 55th Street. There, they located the Yamaha, with a male rider on the bike.  A foot chase through a residential neighborhood ensued, but the suspect was not captured. The motorcycle appeared to be in good condition.

This remains an ongoing investigation.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Yamaha motorcycle in May of 2008 at Renton Motorcycles in Renton, Washington.
