The owners of a 2006 Mercedes C230 contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the 2600 block of South Decatur. The owners had dropped off the Mercedes at an auto repair shop to have some work done. The work was completed and the Mercedes was parked outside the shop. When the owner showed up to retrieve the Mercedes it was missing from the shop. The owner of the shop believed that an employee he had fired earlier in the day had taken the Mercedes when he left so the police were called.

A police officer verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes.

6 minutes later officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.

Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Mercedes to a fenced in parking lot in the 4400 block of Cameron and was parked between two large semi-trucks. The Mercedes was unoccupied at the time of the recovery, however video surveillance of the yard showed that the suspect was in fact the fired employee. Police went to the fired employee’s address, which was nearby and was able to arrest him for the theft.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes C230 in April 2006 at Atlanta Classic Cars in Duluth, Georgia.
