The owner, a commercial business, of a 2016 Ford F250 called the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen. The business advised a customer rented the Ford and has failed to return it per the contract. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford F250.

Shortly after the activation, the Albuquerque PD flight officers in Air1 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft. The Ford was tracked to the area of the State Fair Grounds and ground units were directed into the area. The Ford went mobile and was tracked through multiple area commands.

An Albuquerque PD officer equipped with a PTC picked up the LoJack signal and tracked the Ford to the area of Coors and Hanover. Officers initiated a traffic stop with the Ford and the driver failed to yield. Officers did not engage in a risky pursuit and relied on the PTC to relocate the Ford. Officers tracked the Ford to a residence in the area of 56th and Fortuna where they found the Ford parked in a driveway unoccupied.

The Ford was recovered and processed for evidence at the scene. The Ford was towed from the scene for safekeeping until the business can take possession of the rental truck.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford F250 in March 2016 via Commercial Sales in Atlanta, Georgia.
