Lexus is Stolen While Warming Up in Driveway in Washington, Recovered in Minutes

On the morning of January 5, 2012, the owner of a 2008 Lexus IS250 was warming his vehicle in the driveway of his residence in the 8600 block of 42nd Street West in University Place, Washington. An opportunistic thief took advantage of that situation and drove off with the Lexus. The owner immediately reported the theft to the University Place Police Department.
University Place Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Lexus’ information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Lexus and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Four minutes later, the same deputy that took the stolen vehicle report received the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Lexus on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol car. Within a few minutes, the deputy tracked the signal to 89th Avenue West at Parkridge Drive West, where he located the vehicle abandoned and in good condition.
The owner arrived at the scene of the recovery to retrieve his car. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus in April of 2008 as part of a pre-install program, whereby the dealer protects their inventory before the cars are sold in order to provide the customer with a valuable accessory to protect their car from theft.
