Commercial Burglary Results in Theft of Motorcycles in Bellevue, WA — All 3 Recovered in Minutes

Between the evening hours of January 7, 2012 and the early morning hours of January 8, 2012, a business that handles pre-owned cars, SUVs and motorcycles was the victim of a commercial burglary. The thieves entered a storage building located in the 11000 block of NE 2nd Place in Bellevue through a hole they punched in a wall and stole three motorcycles. One of the motorcycles was equipped with LoJack.
The crime was reported to the Bellevue Police Department, who responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen motorcycles’ information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Yamaha and initiated the tracking of the motorcycle.
Less than ten minutes later, a Seattle Police Department officer, equipped with a LoJack Tracking Computer, began to receive the silent LoJack signal transmitting from the stolen Yamaha motorcycle. Following the audio and visual cues on the computer display, the officer located the motorcycle abandoned in the 6500 block of 36th Avenue NE. Aside from some ignition and steering lock damage, the motorcycle was in good condition. The other two motorcycles were located by Bellevue Police Depaertment approximately 100 yards from the business, abandoned at an intersection.
LoJack was installed in the Yamaha YZF-R1 in September of 2006. The dealer in Bellevue had no idea the Yamaha was equipped with LoJack.
