Craigslist Sale Gone Wrong

In this amazing story, the victim sold his vehicle via craigslist, and days later discovered the suspect/buyer had paid for it with a bad check.
The victim was unable to locate the suspect/buyer and met with the Modesto Police to report the vehicle stolen. A theft report was completed and the vehicle information was entered into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the national system, NCIC. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
The next afternoon and 300 miles away, officers with the Reno Police Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol began to receive the silent signal from the stolen Honda Civic. The officers had their dispatch run the LoJack code appearing on their on board LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) and were then advised of the stolen status and vehicle description of the stolen Honda.
The officers then used the directional and signal strength cues on their PTC’s and tracked the vehicle to the area of Locust and Ryland Streets. The officers conducted a felony stop on the vehicle and took the male driver into custody. The suspect had removed the vehicle license plates to disguise the vehicle.
